Fiber Optic Sensors Group
Our group focusses on the design and implementation of optical sensors to various real-world applications primarily on structural health monitoring. We devise both points as well as distributed sensing solutions. Optical sensors based on fiber Bragg gratings have been developed for applications like monitoring the structural integrity of airplanes, partial discharge detection in power transformers and detecting an onset of instability in combustors etc. In the distributed fiber sensors area, our research focuses on Brillouin based and Rayleigh based sensors for long-range sensing.
