Research Topic: Development of high performance Resonant Fiber Optic Gyroscope for Navigation applications using Photonic Crystal Fiber
Position: PhD-External

Background:

  • Pursued B.Tech in Electronics and Communication, KSR College of Technology, Thiruchengode, TN in 2003.
  • Pursued M.Tech in Microelectronics and VLSI Design, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai in 2008.

Current Research:

Gyroscopes are the core of the today’s inertial navigation, guidance, and control systems for aircraft, missiles, ships, and land vehicles. Recent trends in Control & Navigation applications are focused on Fiber Optic Gyroscopes (FOG) in place of Mechanical Gyroscopes and Ring Laser Gyroscopes. The bias stability, scale factor and random walk are the key performance factors of FOG applications. The performance characteristics of FOG with increased accuracy are largely dependent on the characteristics of its basic elements and its assembly techniques. My research focuses to explore Resonant FOG configuration to realize improved bias stability and scale factor over conventional Interferometric-FOG. Also to use sensing fiber based on Photonic Crystal Fiber instead of Polarization Maintained Fiber to get good thermal robustness.
