Title: Design and Development of Fiber Optic Parametric Amplifiers for Capacity Scaling in Fiber Optic Communication

Abstract :

As global data demand continues to surge, enhancing the capacity of optical fiber communication systems has become a critical challenge. Fiber Optic Parametric Amplifiers (FOPAs), leveraging the nonlinear phenomenon of four-wave mixing (FWM) in optical fibers, offer a promising solution by enabling ultra-broadband amplification, wavelength conversion, and flexible gain tuning—capabilities essential for future high-capacity networks.

This seminar explores the design and development of FOPAs with a focus on their role in capacity scaling of fiber optic communication systems. The session will cover the theoretical foundations of parametric amplification, design considerations including phase matching and dispersion engineering, and practical implementation using highly nonlinear fibers (HNLFs). We will discuss the FOPA experimental results obtained with the available HNLFs.
