Title: Transmitter-Side Measurement of Mutual Inductance for Inductive Wireless Charging Applications

Abstract :

Accurate estimation of mutual inductance (M) between transmitter and receiver coils is critical for efficient power transfer, effective charging control, and accurate load monitoring in inductive wireless charging systems. Conventional sensing techniques often rely on measurements or modifications on the receiver side, which is inconvenient or can be impractical. Meanwhile, transmitter-side measurements to estimate M are influenced by both M and the unknown battery load, complicating the estimation process. This talk presents a novel method for estimating mutual inductance using only transmitter-side measurements. The approach introduces a new load isolation technique that minimizes the impact of the unknown load, simplifying the estimation. A specific resonant frequency is identified to enable effective load isolation and mutual inductance estimation with minimal instrumentation. Based on this frequency and known circuit parameters, an analytical expression is derived to compute M. Simulation and experimental results will be presented in the talk to demonstrate the accuracy and practical feasibility of the proposed technique.
