Title: Analysis, Design and Implementation of High Voltage Pulse Power Converters for Plasma Technology Applications

Abstract :

This research presents a compact and efficient high voltage pulse generator designed for applications such as industrial waste treatment, space plasma thrusters, and hydrocarbon synthesis from CO2. The system operates from a low DC input (12–28 V) and generates programmable high voltage pulses ranging from 250 V to 10 kV. It features a two-stage architecture: a high-frequency pre-processing stage (pre-PS) that boosts the input voltage, and a post-processing stage (post-PS) that shapes the output into precise high voltage pulses. An energy-based analysis is used to model and optimize energy transfer, minimizing losses due to parasitic capacitance and leakage inductance. The generator utilizes resonant operation and soft switching for high voltage gain and efficiency. A peak current mode control with minimum voltage point switching is implemented for improved performance, while a predictive control scheme eliminates the need for voltage and current sensors, reducing system complexity and cost. This makes the design compact, cost-effective, and adaptable to various pulse power applications.
