Title: Inertia Emulation in an Islanded Hybrid Microgrid System using Modified Deadbeat Controller

Abstract

In this seminar talk, inertia emulation in an islanded DC-coupled hybrid microgrid system using a modified deadbeat controller for the voltage source inverters will be presented. This control technique accounts for the discrepancy error due to parameter mismatches and tracks the droop control set inverter reference voltages with negligible steady-state error. The modified deadbeat control technique is extended to emulate the inertia in an islanded hybrid microgrid system. This study shows the impact of feed-forward inertia and damping constants, fed to the DC voltage regulator designed using small-signal modeling of the battery and supercapacitor-based energy storage system, on the overall system’s rate of change of frequency (RoCoF) and frequency nadir. The proposed control algorithms are tested for various operational scenarios like parameter mismatches, and weak grid conditions- formed using the PMSG integration to the islanded hybrid microgrid, and voltage sag will be presented in this talk.
