Photonic and Mesocopic Devices – Spontaneous and stimulated emission of light – absorption – recombination, photodetectors (p-i-n, avalanche photodiode – light sources (LEDs, and semiconductor lasers) and quantum well structures – superlattices – quantum dots – wires and single electron transistor. Introduction to quantum mechanics – WKB approximation and band theory - coulomb blockade – single electron transistor.

 

Introduction to magneto electronics – spin – orbit coupling and magnetization.  The Landau – Lipschitz equations of motion for both macrocopic and microscipic spins – band theory for ferromagnets - application of magnetoelectronics – giant magnetoresistance (GMR) tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) – Spin – FET, Spin – diode and Spin – wave generator.
