Optimal protective relay coordination problem (CP) of directional over current relays in power delivery networks is a challenging issue as it is highly constrained and nonlinear. This issolved by linearizing the values of current plug settings (CPS) and making time dial settings (TDS) as decision variables. This talk presents a new formulationofCPas a linear programming problem without fixing the CPS values by using bilinear relaxation. The bilinear terms in the proposed formulation are written in the form of linear inequalities using McCormick relaxations. A sequential tightening algorithm is employed to update the boundary limits of each parameter based on the solution obtained in each iteration, thus leading to solutions near to global optimum. The performance of the proposed method is applied on various networks like3 Bus, 8 Bus and 30 Bus systems to illustrate the working of the proposed method for optimal protective relay coordination.
