Indo-Swedish Colloquium on Electrotechnology Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Madras on 2-4 December 2015

IT Madras, KTH Sweden (www.kth.se/en) along with ABB Sweden and ABB India (www.ABB.com) is planning to organize an Indo-Swedish colloquium on Electrotechnology, at IIT Madras, during 2-4 December, 2015.

The initiative is to meet the following objectives

Provide opportunities for students specializing in Electrotechnology to familiarize with the latest research and developments in the area

Discuss and deliberate the cutting edge research activities, and

Evolve mechanisms for research collaborations between ABB, KTH Sweden and Academic Institutes in India working in the area of Electrotechnology.

Topics for Discussion

The following are the broad research areas (not limited to):

Applied electromagnetics towards rotating machines, transformer, magnetic circuits

High voltage technology and insulation coordination, electrical breakdown in gas, liquid, and solids

High voltage insulation materials, advanced functional materials,

Multi-physics modelling of power devices such as transformers including coupled electrical, magnetic and thermal circuits

Transients in power systems, device-system interactions

Sensor technology, fault detection and diagnostics

Control and communication technology

Student activities at the colloquium

Students are required to prepare and present posters/lectures on specific topics within the broad area of the topics. The participants will have intensive discussions with the participating professors and researchers, starting from basic theoretical aspects to final applications. All sessions will have overview lectures by the participating professors.

Bachelor students who have completed at least Five semesters of coursework at their home institutions or Research scholars pursuing their PhDs/ master students from the fields of Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, Electronics, Electrical, Aerospace, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The attendance of master and dual degree students is especially encouraged.

The students have to submit one page abstract of their plan of work (indicating the broad area of topic mentioned) intended for presentation in the colloquium through online ( http://www.ee.iitm.ac.in/ISC2015 ) before 15th October 2015. The selected abstracts for presentation will be intimated before 20th October 2015. The selected candidates will be provided with

Free Registration for the colloquium
To and fro AC (II) train travel expenses and free boarding and lodging to participating students.

Innovative Idea Session

The research scholars are encouraged to submit one page abstract for this session separately. The selected abstract will be allowed for poster presentation. The candidates can involve in discussion with the experts in the area and can plan their future collaborative work with Indian experts/faculties from KTH Sweden and with ABB members from India and corporate R&D Sweden. Prizes will be awarded for the best posters.
