ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING ASSOCIATION (EEA)
IIT Madras
The Electrical Engineering Association (EEA) is a student body that was setup to enrich the lives of Electrical Engineering students, during their stay at this Institute. It operates with full support of the faculty and staff of the department.
Vision :
The EEA intends to
-
promote general awareness of students about various recent advances in the field of Electrical Engineering
-
encourage a spirit of hands-on learning
-
inculcate an inquisitive temperament amongst students
-
organize social events for its members
Activities :
Towards this end, the EEA is actively involved in conducting several events throughout the course of the year.
- Technical Workshops
The EEA conducts Technical Workshops in association with leading companies. These workshops are open to students of Electrical Engineering from IIT Madras and other colleges, and industry professionals. These workshops introduce cutting-edge technologies and latest trends in research and development to a fairly diverse audience. This CDMA workshop is one such endeavour, being conducted by QUALCOMM. In addition, a workshop on similar lines on Filed Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) will be conducted by EEA early next year. - Design Contests
Design Contests are conducted every year for students of the department. Last year, the Design Contest focused on increasing the utility of an ordinary analog oscilloscope. Questions included designing and building circuits to incorporate a VI curve tracer for two and three terminal devices and a Spectrum Analyzer in a 30 Mhz oscilloscope. - Lecture Series
From time to time, the association organizes lectures by Industry Professionals, Professors and students. Last year, in collaboration with the Chennai chapter of IEEE Gold, we hosted the Indian Linux Users Group Chennai (ILUGC) for a lecture cum demonstration on 'Linux for Engineering'. The demonstration was particularly well attended, with over 300 participants from IIT and outside. - Popular Electronics
Along with the Hobby Club, IIT Madras, the EEA conducts regular in-house sessions on the core fundamentals needed for pursuing electronics as a hobby. Sessions introducing students to Micro-controller (Microchip, Atmel and Dallas) programming and interfacing, Sensors, and Robotics are planned for this academic year.
