The Department
Computing Facility (DCF) is the common computing facility
for the entire department, offering computing and
Internet services to about 1000 users including students
and faculty members. It was started in 1987 as a multi-user
system based on a VAX/VMS machine. In the mid ‘90s,
the facility was transformed into a PC and Linux-based
networked system. Currently the facility has about
35 PCs, majority of them based on the Pentium processors.
Work on a
new Undergraduate (UG) lab is underway. The lab, which
will be operated as a part of DCF, will offer integrated
computing facility for undergraduate students where
the students can conduct their labwork and also work
on their final year projects. A set of sixteen Pentium-III
based PCs have already been acquired for future use
in the lab.
